“My drawing (on white lined paper) titled “Danny’s Anguish” is a portrait of my brother-in-law, formerly a surgeon and rabbi, who can no longer speak because of aphasia that struck him in his late 50’s. With this disease, the brain tissue that aids in speech and language, deteriorates and leads inexorably in an excruciating slow deterioration of all cognitive and functional abilities, to death.
